growing PROJECT

For ten years Pembina Pipelines generously donated a quarter section of land to Share the Harvest and we will be forever grateful for their generosity. Unfortunately, that land became unavailable due to industry expansion.

But as so often is the case when one door closes, another one opens. Our prayers were answered and we are now located on 280 acres that Suncor donated near our original site but with even better visibility as it sits at the junction of Highway 643 and Highway 825, about 8 km east of Gibbons, Alberta.

About half of the field is our Grow Hope field. All the proceeds from that field will go to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank as well, but acres are sponsored by the community. Check that out at our Grow Hope page (under projects).

In our traditional 140 acre "Growing Project” our corporate sponsors generously provide us with crop inputs and our directors and volunteer farmers donate equipment and labour to seed the crop and provide any other field operations required .

annual Harvest & Barbecue

septEMBER 7, 2024 11:30pm

The highlight of the year is the harvest day when we typically have a dozen combines operating along with grain carts and grain trucks. Friends, neighbours, and supporters gather to enjoy a BBQ,  share news about the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and its activities  and to celebrate the harvest. The combines start rolling with the wave of a Canadian flag and the harvest is quickly completed.  The crop is sold with the proceeds forwarded  to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB).

A big thanks to our supporters

We couldn’t pull this together without the generosity of our agri-business partners and the selfless work of area farmers that take on the work to produce our crop and get it off to market. Their willingness to contribute to this cause and the “Git ‘er done!” spirit is amazing!
